Regional Meetings of PCCCs representatives

As continuation of its efforts to enhance the exchange of information amonh the Police and Customs Cooperation Centres (PCCCs) the DCAF Border Security Programme is organising a regional meeting of PCCC representatives. The meeting will provide an opportunity to review the DCAF-developed recommendations on the functioning of the PCCCs, to exchange practical experience and issues experienced in exchang of information, and explore the possibiliites to address key elements that hinder operational cooperation in the fight against cross-border crime.

Regional workshop on combating Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Goods

Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina

In cooperation with the Agency for Education and Professional Training (AEPTM) in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, DCAF Border Security Programme is organising a 3-day training on the topic of combating the Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Goods. 

The training which foresees the participation of representatives of Border Police, Customs services, and law enforcement Training institutions, will provide insight in the the phenomenon, information on key modus operandi and practical insight into approaches and measures for its detection and investigations. 

The training will also be supported by DCAF Geneva, UNESCO and Interpol.

Field training activity to enhance the capacities of PCCCs

DCAF Border Security is preparing a field trainng activity to a selected Police and Customs Cooperation Centre in the WB region. The activity will provide the participants with an opportunity to see the functioning of the PCCC, to engage with the officers working at the PCCC, to discuss operational issues and to gain new knowledge and insight into the functioning of the PCCCs.

Meeting of Heads of Border Police Services

North Macedonia

On the 20 and 21 April 2022, DCAF Border Security Programme (BSP) organised a meeting of Heads of Border Police Services in the WB Region. The meeting, which was organised in celebration of the 20-year anniversary of the Programme, provided an opportunity for a discussion on the progress achieved in the Region following the turmoil period of the 90s, to highlight success stories and good practices, to promote the activities of the BSP, to address the current challenges related to Border Security and regional cross-border police cooperation, as well as future challenges and opportunities. In addition to the BSP Beneficiaries, the meeting was also attended by representatives of Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, PCC SEE Secretariat, Frontex, Europol, Joint Coordination Platform, CEPOL, Interpol, SELEC, MARRI RC, OSCE Mission to Skopje, GIZ, and the Police attaché of Switzerland.

The meeting was complemented with a live public broadcast session on the 20th of April, during which the representatives of Frontex, Europol, Joint Coordination Platform and DCAF Ljubljana (Andrej Rupnik) shared their views on the progress achieved in the area of border security in the past 20 years, the current challenges, lessons learnt and future opportunities.

Meeting of Heads of Border Police Services

DCAF Border Security Programme is organising a meeting of Heads of Border Police Services. 

The meeting will provide an opportunity to review the progress achieved by the Programme in the WB Region in its 20 years of existance, take a look at the current existing challenges and provide an opportunity to identify the future focus and endeavours in the area of border security. 

The meeting is expected to be attended by representatives of several international organisations and agencies. 

First time ever, the Meeting will include an open session, which will be broadcasted online and which everyone interested in the topic of WB border security can attend.

Meeting of Heads of the PCCCs and Customs

Koper, Slovenia

Between 18-20 May 2022, a meeting of national PCCC Coordinators and representatives of Customs services will take place in Slovenia, with aim to present the DCAF-developed recommendations on the functioning of the PCCCs to the national coordinators, together with discussions of the field activities, and will attempt to enhance the familiarisation of participants with the information exchange among the customs services

The activity will be supported by a study visit to the Port of Koper, where the participants will have the opportunity to engage with customs officials and discuss the information exchange among the customs services. Furthermore, the participants will have an opportunity to visit a local police station, and discuss the cooperation among the police and the customs services in the context of Port of Koper.

Workshop on Regional Risk Analysis and Planning of Operational Measures

North Macedonia

The aim of the workshop was to engage with relevant stakeholders, to enhance familiarisation with the phenomenon of ITCG and review regional developments in the area of ITCG, to identify key trends of cross-border criminality in the WB Region, with special focus on ITCG, to familiarise the participants with the DCAF Border Security Programme concept for peer-to-peer training in the form of common (field) operations, and to discuss and agree on a common operation field training activity in the field of ITCG to be organised in the first half of 2023.
