Project activities are foreseen to last for 36 months, and will apply a multi-phase approach and structure of tasks, carried out by external experts under the leadership of the DCAF Project Team and in cooperation with members of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

The overall goal of the project is that the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BP BiH) strengthens its institutional capacity, resilience, and operation effectiveness in line with EU standards and international best practices, contributing to improved security and stability for citizens in BiH and the wider region.

The project contributes to this goal by supporting the operationalisation of analytical tools, strengthening intelligence-led policing approaches, and enhancing the professional capacities of BP BiH personnel. Through these efforts, it aims to improve situational awareness, evidence-based decision-making, and the consistent application of operational procedures in border management.

To achieve this goal, the project focuses on strengthening the ability of BP BiH to integrate modern analytical tools, structured operational methodologies, and specialised training into its daily operational work. In particular, the project seeks to strengthen both analytical and operational capacities necessary for addressing irregular migration and cross-border crime. The project therefore aims to achieve two key outcomes, namely:

Outcome 1: BP BiH strengthens and applies intelligence-led operational planning and analytical decision-making based on GIS tools and CIRAM risk analysis

Outcome 2: BP BiH improves its operational mechanisms for tackling organised crime related to irregular migration flows (incl. THB), and aligns them with international humanitarian and migration law
