Continued partnership with Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina
he project “Enhancing Capacity and Resilience in Border Policing of Bosnia and Herzegovina (2026–2029)”, implemented by DCAF Ljubljana from 15 July 2026 to 14 July 2029, aims to strengthen the effectiveness, coherence and sustainability of border management in Bosnia and Herzegovina in line with European and international standards.
Funded by the Government of Switzerland, represented by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), the project supports the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BP BiH) in enhancing institutional capacities, operational resilience and effectiveness through the integration of modern analytical tools, standardised border control methodologies, risk analysis approaches and targeted training for operational officers, analysts and trainers.
Implemented over 36 months, the project follows a phased approach led by the DCAF Project Team, in cooperation with BP BiH and external experts. It focuses on strengthening intelligence-led policing, improving situational awareness and supporting evidence-based decision-making to address challenges related to irregular migration and cross-border crime.
The project will contribute to two key areas:
- Strengthening intelligence-led operational planning and analytical decision-making through the operationalisation of Geographical Information System (GIS)-based tools and the application of Common Integrated Risk Analysis Model (CIRAM) methodologies.
- Enhancing operational capacities to tackle organised crime and cross-border threats through improved procedures, specialised training and strengthened cooperation among relevant border policing actors.
Through these efforts, the project will contribute to improved border security and resilience in Bosnia and Herzegovina, supporting wider regional stability and cooperation.
