Warsaw, Poland - The traditional European Day for Border Guards took place on 23 May 2013 at Frontex in Warsaw and was attended by border guard authorities from across the EU and its neighboring regions. Participants discussed the future of migration and border control in times of crisis, new developments and opportunities through the eyes of practitioners in this important field, and elaborated on border control priorities. The European Border Surveillance (EUROSUR) was also discussed. The participants visited the National Border Guards Authorities exposition and the Frontex Consultative Forum Exhibition. Ms Nevenka Tomović, DCAF Leading Expert for Education and Training, took part at the official signing ceremony and the launching of the Sectoral Qualification Framework for Border Guarding. Mr Ilkka Laitinen, Director of Frontex, emphasised the valuable contribution of DCAF in the development of the important new Framework setting standards for European border guards in terms of knowledge and competences.
