DCAF Field Activity of the Schengen Integration Task Force in Slovakia
Košice Region, Slovakia - The Schengen Integration Task Force, whose objective is to support the capacity development of the Schengen rule of law implementation within the Western Balkan countries and recently joined Moldova, responded to the Slovak experts’ invitation to have a study visit at the Slovak-Ukrainian border. The visit took place from 16-19 October 2017. The aim of the field activity was to familiarise the participants with the Slovak concept of the border control implementation at the 100 km long Schengen external border with Ukraine. The special emphasis was given on border security issues related to the detection and discovering of illegal migrations, smuggling of goods and other law violations when the current situation at the border was presented by the Slovak border police management. The Working Group visited couple of units responsible for surveillance of the Schengen green border, where the practical work and equipment were presented, however more information on how the border control is carried out was gain at the visit of the largest border crossing point Vyšné Nemecké.
At the field activity, the representatives of the DCAF Border Security Programme beneficiary states were also familiarised about the novelties related to the new relevant regulations that were implemented from the last meeting in April 2017 within the European Union and in practice. The final version of the newly added module in SSE application that deals with the field of return was presented. It was agreed that the beneficiary countries will perform the self-evaluation in their respective countries, which will base on return regulation in accordance with the Schengen requirements, within the SSE module.
