DCAF Meeting on Facilitating Common and Coordinated Operational Measures
Western Balkan region - Between 10-12 February 2014, an expert-level meeting was held in Belgrade, Serbia on facilitating further common and coordinated operations in the Western Balkan region to be held until the end of 2014. The meeting convened experts and practitioners in the area of cross-border police cooperation and border security from the Western Balkan beneficiariy countries, Croatia, Slovenia, UNODC Serbia, Frontex and DCAF. They conducted an evaluation of the operational results achieved by their countries in the 4 DCAF-facilitated Common and Coordinates Operations executed together in 2013. Participants reaffirmed their high added value in preventing and detecting cross-border activities, and a need to continue their cooperation in 2014, based on lessons learned and valuable experience gained so far. Participants were familiarised with the activities of Frontex and UNODC in the area of Western Balkans. A detailed preparation procedures for the 4 operational measures in 2014 was agreed, which will facilitate the communication and cooperation between DCAF Ljubljana and the participating countries' authorities during the planning, execution and reporting phase of the operations.
