Meeting on Facilitation of Common and Coordinated Measures in the Western Balkan Region

Belgrade, Serbia - Meeting on Facilitation of Common and Coordinated Measures in the Western Balkan Region under the DCAF Border Security Programme was held from 04–06 March 2015, in Belgrade, Republic of Serbia. It brought together national representatives of beneficiary countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia), representatives of EU countries (Austria, Croatia and Slovenia), and representatives of relevant partner organizations (FRONTEX, OSCE, IOM and UNODC).

The objectives of the meeting were to contribute to further guidance of common and coordinated measures under the auspices of the DCAF Border Security Programme, to evaluate the results and achievements reached during the Common and Coordinated Operations held in 2014, as well as to agree on the timeframe for the Common and Coordinated Operations to be held during 2015. Participants from the WB and EU countries presented their proposals, suggestions and comments for the overall improvement of the quality, substance, organization and outcomes of the Common and Coordinated Measures.

The meeting achieved the planned objectives and reached the expected outcomes. It demonstrated the readiness of the participating countries and international endeavours to work together, to undertake common and coordinated measures and continually promote common activities aimed to prevention, detection and suppression of illegal migration and other types of cross-border criminal activities in the WB region. During the meeting dates and venues for two Common and two Coordinated Operations in 2015 were agreed upon.
